Calling all young European emerging bands!


By entering the European Emerging Bands Contest you stand a chance to perform at European Youth Event (EYE2021) on the 8 & 9 of October in Strasbourg, France. All you need to do is submit your entry by the 1st of September 2021 with your band's info, music & links and convince us you're the best band for the job! The EYE2021 jury will shortlist the best 15 bands and a youth jury will then decide the 6 winners to perform live during the event!

Who can apply?

 

Soloists or bands with a maximum of 8 members from:

  • European Union member countries

    EU candidate countries and former member countries: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, United Kingdom.

    EFTA countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

  • Band members may not be over 30 years of age.

  • Bands should play a genre that is accessible to a wide variety of people.

 

How to apply?

 

Apply online via Mubazar.com by September 1st, midnight CET. Each soloist/band should submit at least 1 and maximum 3  songs in a video (Youtube or Vimeo) or audio (.mp3) format.

What can you win?

​

  • Each winner will have a 30 minutes performance at EYE2021, in front of thousands of young people from all over Europe

  • Winners will receive a cash prize of 1000€ each.

  • Winners will be informed in September 2021 by email and/or by telephone.

 

How are the entries judged?

 

A preliminary eligibility screening and preselection will be carried out by the EP and JMI technical jury. The 15 shortlisted entries will be evaluated by a Youth Jury of under-30 musicians and youth & music experts.

 

The following criteria will be adopted in evaluating the entries:

  1. Musical quality

  2. Geographical and musical diversity

  3. Originality 

 

The decision of the jury will be announced on September 12th, 2021.

 

Important information:

 

By submitting your application you agree with the following Terms and Conditions:

  • You declare to be the copyright owner/ right holder of the music/video and not to infringe third parties rights including, but not limited to, copyright, related rights and image rights. If you are not the copyright owner/right holder of the music/video, you declare that you have obtained all necessary authorisations from third parties having rights on the music/video you submit. 

  • You retain full copyright on the music/video you submit.

  • You grant to the European Parliament, JM International (JMI) and its licensees, including and without limitation, any radio or television broadcasting corporation or any festival organiser, the right to reproduce, store, record, distribute,broadcast or otherwise communicate to the public, by any means, your performance at EYE2021 and all connected concerts and rehearsals as well as any material submitted via your application.

  • The European Parliament, JM International and its licensees the right to use the recordings of your performances, or portions of thereof,  for the entire duration of the copyrights or related rights, and worldwide, for any purpose related to the EYE2021 or to the European Parliament activities.

  • You agree that the European Parliament, JM International and its licensees have the right to publish and disseminate your name, picture and voice, and biographical information about you, by any means, for the purposes of information and advertising and publicising your performances. In no event shall your name be used in connection with any product or service.

  • It is also understood that if you are selected to take part in EYE2021 you will be requested to sign individual licence agreements with JMI before the event and you will have to take all necessary steps to attend the above-mentioned venue and agree to comply with any official request by the European Parliament and JM International, such as the provision of a copy of the plane ticket or other kind of travel documentation both to and from the host country. This paragraph also applies to all other official requests (additional data of the musicians; additional copies of other documents than passport; accreditation forms; statements, etc.) by the JM International office, the local organiser, host country or any other third party involved in the organisation of the session (music festivals in general; competitions; TV or radio performances, or others).

 

Practical information

  • JMI will cover the winning bands’ travels to/from Strasbourg, their local transportation in Strasbourg

  • JMI will cover accommodation (from Oct. 7th to 10th) and food, as per the following meals:

    • Dinner on October 7th

    • Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on October 8th and 9th

  • Bands are expected to arrive in Strasbourg on the 7th of October in the morning (before 12:00 CET). Soundcheck will be on the 7th in the afternoon.

  • Bands will perform on the 8th or 9th (there are different time slots and bands will be placed accordingly).

  • Bands are expected to attend coaching & training workshops organized by JMI on the 8th and 9th.

  • Bands are expected to depart on the 10th of October.

 

NB: In the case that the EYE would be an online or hybrid event, JMI would then endeavour to bring the winners of the contest to Strasbourg “digitally”, in the form of a livestream or pre-recorded video segments that could be integrated into the rest of the event programme.

Please note that by submitting your application you consent to the processing of your personal data. The information collected will be confidential and processed exclusively in the context of the European Emerging Bands Contest and the 2021 European Youth Event, and will be used for that purpose only.
